What In the Samhain* Is Going On Here?

It's finally here! All Hallow's Eve and I managed to post almost daily throughout the month. Check out The Countdown to Halloween for more than 200 other participants. As usual, the best laid plans of Mike and Men were rend asunder by circumstances beyond my control (couldn't figure out my new scanner, got a head cold, had to go to work, etc.) I wanted to finish my book of Yokai, some Yokai mazes, add daily videos, etc.

But what you did get were several pages of kid's artwork with a decidedly Japanese bent and a few silly pictures of the Hulk. So to finish off the month, here are more silly pictures of the Hulk! (More artwork later.)

Hulk Smash Wonder Woman's heart!

This was at a Halloween party for the kiddies at Carl Eikaiwa School.

Hulk Smash puny Vampire!

The Purple Rat-thing above is Pumpkin-Carver extraordinaire! Nice work Yvonne!

While I was typing this, I popped over to Facebook and discovered two new photos, of the Hulk battling the Vampire and hanging out with a couple of ghouls in the Haunted House!

In the afternoon, I popped over to Rifu to check out Yuki and her kids' costume fashion show. Yuki wasn't there, but Jessie was! As well as a pirate, a witch and a pumpkin that she'd carved.

Finally, I managed to finagle a few more pictures from the Ernie's Halloween party, including the ever-elusive DJ Mokugohan as Scarecrow!

As an added bonus, here's a close-up of the Scarecrow and his darling starling.

The Countdown to Halloween hasn't ended! Stay tuned for more kid's pics because I'm doing Halloween lessons for the next two days as well!
*Samhain...I know it is pronounced "Sow-en" but I like the gag in the post's title.

Hulk Smashed!

Take one cheap mask courtesy of Don Quixote Quijote, a pair of purple pants, an old shirt and a giant green fist and you've got yourself a cool little Hulk costume.

You can watch the transformation here:

(Disappointed that the finale of the video shows up in the thumbnail.)

Maybe it's the whiter-than-white teeth or the really big fist, but Hulk is quite the hit with the gals.

Speaking of ladies, as usual Hulk is hounded by the authorities.

She-Hulk needed some medical attention...

...so Hulk Smashed nasty boo-boo.

Fortunately a real nurse was on hand to lend a hand.

There were others at the party as well, but alas, all of them were Smashed by the Hulk. Iron-Ernie looked particularly foreboding.

DJ Mokugohan in Deathmask. As you can see, Haunted Disney tunes in the background. An awesome video compiled by Mokugohan was powered by my iPhone. Downside, I had to rely on my unreliable camera to take photos. Therefore, I didn't get a picture of Alex in his Scarecrow garb. Anyone out there have a photo of it?
PS. Best Halloween music in Sendai. A dozen different bars had parties that night, ours had actual Halloween music, graphics, prizes and treats! All costumed participants got a Nightmare Before Christmas toy courtesy of me and a CD compilation courtesy of Mokugohan.

A few of the other ladies of the evening (wait, that doesn't sound right.)

Hulk Smashed puny trick or treaters by giving them Hulk Pez!

Where it all began...

By the way, Hulk only had a few beers so he wasn't at all Smashed himself!

Pandemonium at Pangaea.

I heard it through the Grapevine that there would be a reunion of the Grapevine patrons. Now, I came to Sendai in the Spring of 2000 so the Grapevine had actually withered and no longer bore fruit. It did though leave a legacy that was revisited on Friday night.

Starting with a DJ (Katsuo Iishi) who played actual vinyl, songs that I have actually heard of and he didn't mix them. A very auspicious beginning indeed.

Next up was a band that I saw at the UFO event in the mountains a few weeks back, Jumping Crows played their unique version of New Orleans style Dixieland music. A little loud in small quarters but definitely rocked the joint.

A few familiar faces and several people who remembered me while it took me a long time to recall who the heck they were.

Finally, along came DJ Mokugohan. He spun some jazzy mash-ups, two of which you can witness below.

Hopefully I'll still be around for their next 15th Anniversary.

Feeling flushed

I was in one of my tinier schools on Friday and this is in the men's stall in the Nurse's room. I have never seen a happier piece of poo.

The Grade Threes didn't have much time but here's their output.

The Grade Fives on the other hand had all morning to perfect their output.

I'm going to a school tomorrow where they have ideas on a Halloween lesson. I dread to think what I'm in for.
