The Nihon Eiga Senmon Channel just finished showing a 4K resolution of King Kong vs. Godzilla and it was a truly vibrant print, showcasing the Battle of the Century. Alas, the higher resolution also showed off some of the flaws of the movie, such as the costume for Kong and the primitive green screen effects. Yet the Giant Octopus scene was terrific as were all the battle scenes. All in all, a fun movie, made even more amusing by Mr. Tako (Ichiro Arishima) that critics refer to as the Japanese Chaplin. In my opinion, I considered him to be a cross between Carl Denham and Groucho. The gals were adorable, especially Akemi Negishi as the boy's mom who led the dance for Kong.
The only thing missing from the movie was popcorn to snack upon. Sadly, my giant bin was polished off a few days ago.
Here are some background photos for the movie. You can figure them out for yourself.
I'll be sure to watch this one again before the premiere of the remake in 2020!
