Today is All Angels' Day or St. Michael's Day and is also the date that I used to celebrate my birthday so that I wasn't as ripped off on Christmas, my real birthday. I thought this was as good an excuse as any to break my long (almost 4 months!) absence from the Blogosphere.
On the way home, I picked up some goodies at the Book Off in Minami-Sendai. First up is Deadpool's debut as a Q-Posket. It's nigh-impossible to catch in the UFO Catcher bins so I nabbed it at a relatively low price.
I'll grab the "B" version in the yellow X-Men costume when it shows up cheaper.
I did buy another figure, though I'm going save that for later. Why? Because Countdown to Halloween starts in just two days! I'm not sure what the heck I'll be doing yet so, once again, it'll be last minute posts daily until October 31st.
Almost forgot, I scored a Harley for two bucks. Sure I already own it, but she's ensconced within a box, now she's free to strut her stuff.
Also, a finger puppet of Gomora, my favourite Ultraman baddie.
Finally, I discovered Miss Piggy in her Pigs in Space uniform. SCORE!
I suppose the mottled colouring of these KitKat balls is the reason there's a Dalmatian on the package.
Hopefully I'll be able to provide some more interesting content when my Countdown begins...
I popped into Aeon Mall on my way home from work, hoping to land the last few Avengers Kuji, but no such luck. They're sold out all over the city! I wandered over to GU-Japan (That link takes you to Peanuts shirts, but you get the idea.) to see if there were any knew T-shirts. Yup, there are and in size XL as well.
I don't have any purple shirts and one with Thanos' head upon it suits my needs just fine.
By coincidence, I happen to be wearing this Thanos shirt courtesy of Loot Crate today.
This Hulk T is just incredible. Drawn I think by either Sal or John Buscema, it captures the Jade Giant's rage nicely.
Also by John Buscema I suspect is this pic with classic poses of Hawkeye and Black Widow but with a VERY odd looking Iron Man in the centre. What's up with that pentagon on his chest, the iron-diaper and the big gumboots?
I tried yet again to win a Giant Godzilla to no avail, though I did manage to land this Shield of Cap's.
It's in a Roulette-type game in which a light spins around and you have to stop the light in just the right spot. I got one after about 6 tries.
Inflated, it is quite large. (That's what she said.)
There is also an inflatable hammer although it wasn't available at this location.
At the Cinema, I was surprised that the goods for Deadpool have already been released. (It opens on Friday here.)
I picked up a pair of Clear Files.
And, yay, I finally snagged the elusive fat-headed Spidey!
The Deadpool, that is. Though I saw it in Canada when it first opened, I've waited until its Japanese release to comment upon it. It's a very fun, violent, funny, violent, sexy, violent, exciting, violent movie. Did I mention that there was a little violence in it? As a result, it is rated R+15 here in Japan, which I assume those under 15 are Restricted. That's a tad more restricting than in North America and over here it's probably due to the naughty bits shown during the gratuitous cameo scene. Because it was just released today, I will avoid spoilers for my Nihon-brethren. If you don't mind a lot of violins, violence and some sporadic nudity and lots of nsfw dialogue, I recommend you go see it.
Biggest disappointment? The extreme lack of goods available. NO CLEAR FILES! This is unheard of! A couple of note pads and a few key chain accessories but that's it!!
I picked up a sticker for my new iPhone and a towel, but otherwise slim pickings.
This is the flyer that one can pick up at the cinema. The coy pose of Deadpool slays me.
Scamming from the Deadpool Facebook page, here are several photos and videos leading up to its premiere here.
Advanced tickets anyone?
Now 18? Now you can vote. (Note to Ryan, you don't have to be 18 here in Japan. 15 is the cutoff age.)
A spoiler-heavy almost three minute trailer. (ps. The two X-men featured above were excellent.)
For the ladies. (By the way Ryan, June 1st is not just Lady's Day, it's a cheap day for everyone.)
What I like about some of the promos are them playing up the romantic angle.
I'm sad that this item wasn't available locally, only 60,000 available at a cinema in Tokyo. Dang.
Deadpool rappers.
I'd like to check out this cafe.
I hope this truck comes to Sendai!
Awesome randomness.
Bedtime for me. I'll try and dig up a few more goodies at other cinemas. I hope I'm successful.
ps. I have a challenge to all those who see a subtitled version of the movie. (Slight spoiler alert.) When Francis is asking Deadpool about his name, Wade makes several suggestions. What is the Katakana subtitled name used when he guesses Basil Fawlty?
'Twas 60 years ago that the American release of Godzilla, King of the Monsters was released. The main difference between this version and Japan's is the inclusion of Raymond Burr as reporter Steve Martin, hence the title of today's post.
As a happy coincidence, I was in the cinema picking something up and there for sale are tickets forShin-Godzilla, Toho's main monster in Resurgence. After much shuffling around, the proprietors managed to find my bonus gift, a nifty clear-file of Godzilla vs. Evangelion!
I was at the theatre to pick up advance tickets to Friday's showing of CAvsIM, Civil War which for some reason we are getting a full week before North America*! Go Nippon!
I just so happened to win a Team Cap/ Team Stark pillow at UFO Catcher to commemorate the occasion.
*Why is it so surprising to get a movie a week early? Because Every...Other...Movie is always a few months late!! Case in point, Deadpool.
ps. Apologies for my month-long absence. It was tough to get back in the blogging saddle after my vacation. I needed something important like the above to get me recharged.
