Happy Lupercalia!

I didn't get a chance to disembowel a dog or a goat today for Lupercalia, so I guess I'll just share some Gojira Valentine's chockies and cards that I scammed off the net.

There is always next to NO chocolates for Godzilla fans, lots for dinosaurs and Ultraman and One Piece and Dragonball and Gundam, yet nada for Godzilla. Although I did manage to find some very early on in the chocolate season at Aeon Supermarket. They were sold out shortly thereafter.

I gave one of these to each of my graduating students, and saved the remaining ones for myself.

I gave one of each of these to my Wedding singers and staff yesterday. (The leftovers were also yummy.)

Disappointingly, the chocolates themselves weren't stamped with any Kaiju upon them nor did you even get a sticker. Ah well.

Tomorrow, I plan to give one of these to each of my 1st year students. I think they're gumballs.

At least I get to keep the container.

This is the only Godzilla item I own that is Valentine-based, it's from a calendar from 1988.

These cards are all scammed from the internet. They look great, though the captions are lame. (Yet, isn't that the point?)

So Happy Valentine's Day/ Lupercalia/ Galileo's Birthday/ Ides of February! Whatever you wish to celebrate...

Bonus: Universal Monsters Valentines!

It's In The Cards.

Happy 90th Anniversary of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. May your heart be riddled with bullets!

In a slightly less gruesome sentiment, I hope everyone else is enjoying the day. I spent the evening alone watching Lucifer and Gotham, yet I'm not at all disappointed by that. I also pigged out on some of the chocolates given to me by the female teachers at one of my schools today. I tried to only eat one, but was unsuccessful in doing so.

Below was a homemade choco given to all from one of the older gals at work.

This wonderfully origami-wrapped treat was provided to me from my favourite school.

Imagine my disappointment at the contents.

I saw Aquaman again last night with a friend and she gave me a triple treat of tartlettes. I had them for breakfast.

On Monday, our school lunch included a heart-shaped meat patty. Aww.

These treats may not have been Valentine-oriented yet simply omiyage (souvenirs). Yummy though.

I have spent Valentine's for the last week by providing my students with Valentine Cards to give out to their school pals. 90% of the kids chose Marvel cards, DC just didn't catch their fancy.

I picked these up last year on sale.

Most of the kids (99% of the girls and 80% of the boys) enjoyed filling out the cards and giving them to their friends. And they each gave a card to their teacher as well. I can't find the other two (Avengers and Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman right now), this Super Hero Girls was the least popular card. (NOTE: I have over 1000 students, so they all had photocopies of the above cards, I can't afford to give them all away!)

About two dozen kids gave me a card. Only two gals personalized them.

This box of cards had fallen out of the bag and slipped under my car seat. I didn't notice them until today. I suspect they would have been even more popular.

I think I'll give out these stickers next week.

All in all, it was a fun week.

Happy Ash Valentine's Day

Not since 1945 has Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday converged. I hope people weren't planning on giving up chocolate for Lent. This is the present that Cupid brought for me today.

An Iron Man tin with a dozen brown or white little chocos in it.

I haven't decided whether to keep or give away this Stormtrooper mug. Heaven knows I have enough drinking implements.

You get ten of these little Star cookie thingies.

I bought this for a friend because it was the last one. I was hoping to see it show up elsewhere but it didn't so I guess he'll be the happy recipient of these coasters.

I was given this hunk of chocolate at work today. Tasty enough but a bit thick on the cocoa.

We also had this homemade item. Now I know why it was so heavy. It's 15 pound cake.*

*Explanation of the joke.
It's strawberry flavoured pound cake. ichi-go = strawberry and ichi=1, go=5. Trust me, it's hilarious.

I gave each of the gals at work an opportunity to grab a KitKat. They had a random chance at a Mikan (orange).

Amezake (sweet sake)

Regular chocolate flavour yet with a catchy saying on the package.

This yogurt berry almond flavoured one.

I scammed these galactic pictures ages ago and showed them off to the teachers. Oohs and Aahs ensued.

I recycle this picture of Ash every year at this time, so why buck tradition?

When I can locate my Godzilla calendar from 1988, I recycle this picture as well.

Have a Happy VD and/or Ash Wednesday everyone! (I can't wait until Easter when it mashes up with April Fools Day this year. Expect some sacrilegious hijinks!)
