Werewolf Wednesday!

Today has been a hectic one, what with a perilous journey to work today and a landslide alert!

 

My lesson ended at noon and the rain stopped a little later but the ride home was fraught with flooded streets. I was forced to drive through a flooded area and it did a number on my car window. I couldn't roll it back up! (Do we still use the term "roll up" for automatic windows?) ALL of the Yellow Hat service stations were closed, I can only surmise that the staff were put on flood duty. I managed to find two staff who hadn't yet departed and they helped me raise my window. Phew!

Anyway, The Countdown to Halloween  begins, click there to find participating bloggers and here for Instagrammers. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do this month, haphazard as always! Let's start with my Mandalorian Calendar entry for October. Not very spooky, Grogu rides a Blurrg.

  

I bought a cool looking book on sale, hoping to have a spooky pic a day from it. I should have inspected it more closely, it's an Oni Encyclopedia. 

 

Still, there should be enough in there for me to scam from. Werewolf Wednesday is a bust, there are no vulpine creatures in it. Best I can do is this cool Monkey Demon. 

 

The 猿鬼 Saru-Oni is from the Noto Region of the Ishikawa Prefecture and is a large monkey with a horn on its head and is unaffected by normal arrow-fire.

Fortunately, it was dispatched by Kamisugihime using a special demon decapitator.

Okay, so today's Gatcha/UFO Catcher creature IS a Werewolf, courtesy of Kaibutsu-Kun.

 

My treat today was a different canine, unfortunately it does not have ZERO calories.

 Hey, I just realized. I'm wearing a Werewolf T-Shirt today!

Today's video experience was Walking Dead starring Daryl and Carol. No Werewolves but some lovely fiery Walkers!

AND I'm going to start watching this, though I may give up soon after it starts.

Hay there!

A few weeks ago, I drove out to see the sea and while I was there, I made myself useful.

I gathered up some refuse that had washed up or been left behind. Some old gal saw my efforts and snapped this photo of me. I may actually have been featured in a newspaper somewhere. She even hauled off my trash which is a good thing because I hadn't thought that far ahead and knew not where to take it. 

Afterwards, I went to a nearby garden center to see if they had any pumpkins (they didn't). They had begun their annual "Sculpt an animal out of hay" contest and I snapped a few photos of the dinosaur skeletons.

They had begun to adorn the T-Rex with hay.

I discovered that opening ceremony would be September 25th, so I made a mental note to return then. Last year, I went there as well and truth to tell, it wasn't all that different. Click that link for previous photos or look at these...

There was also a boar and a bull, same as last year.

This time around, there was the most magnificent sculp I've ever seen. A Mini-Gojira!!

I was disappointed in the complete lack of anything to do with Halloween on display. Maybe I'll have to go back again.

Speaking of Godzilla and art, here is some rice paddy art.

One day, I need to go see these in person.

Speaking of Godzilla, here's a pic a kid drew for me before last summer vacation.

It looks like I missed my midnight deadline again. I spent the day going through boxes and throwing stuff away. It hurts me deeply to dispose of toys, but they were just sitting in baggies and I didn't think I'd ever get around to displaying them and they were too crappy for resale.

Here's an example of one of the boxes. I kept about 10 per cent of the crap.

Purging takes a lot out of a hoarder like me so I'm not going to show off any more items in my collection. Tomorrow is Canadian Thanksgiving, that's when I'll display some items I'm thankful for.

I'll just leave you with a Gatcha that I didn't get stuff from and a random t-shirt.

I'm not a big fan of Goonies, so I'll be giving this one away to someone for their birthday. But who??

Last night, I watched The Curse of the Werewolf, a 1961 Hammer movie with Oliver Reed. I'm going to try and find another one now.

WwBN.

Late last night, I caught the very first Marvel TV Special featuring Werewolf By Night. I loved it from beginning to end! Without getting all spoilery, I will make a few observations. 

I liked WwBN comic when it first came out. I missed a few first appearances but read it consistently from about issue 5 onwards. Mike Ploog rules. Ploog also ruled with early Man-Thing art of which I read every issue. I also read and enjoyed the first few appearances of Ulysses Bloodstone. 

 

Those covers were scammed from the internet. Enough comics talk and back to the special.

Opening credits...AWESOME! Cameo head appearances by several famous monsters. Great fight scenes albeit a little gruesome for Marvel. I'm sure the black and white format helped. ALL the leads were wonderful. Ted looked great! 

The dude who played one of the hunters, Jovan, is Kirk R. Thatcher. He was the punk on the bus in Star Trek IV who was taken down by a Vulcanized nerve pinch. There are a few nods to Wizard of Oz in this special and Kirk also happened to direct Muppet Wizard of Oz!

Another unintentional coincidence is that Verussa Bloodstone is played by Harriet Sansom Harris. She was also Frasier's agent on his sitcom. The dog Eddie on that show was a Jack Russell Terrier. Awooo!

Nice little heads up to several (not all) the creators in the end credits.

Furthermore, I like this Special Thanks as well.

I hope there will be future TV specials and many more horror characters brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One small quibble about this show was the lack of mention of Moon Knight. Ah well, it was only 52 minutes long.

I happen to have a few items of a lycanthropic nature in my collection. Such as this Silver Bullet.

Apparently if I keep it in the freezer and then place it in shot of whiskey, it'll remain cold.

I also have another boozy item. I think it's a spout that attaches to a wine bottle so it pours slowly and grotesquely. 

I also have a large sticker, though nowhere to stick it.

No Wolfman t-shirt handy. How about a Frankenstein instead?

I've already watched two Dr. Phibes movies today and the new Scooby Doo. Yay Velma comes out! (Spoiler but Google spoiled it already.)

I probably going to watch a werewolf movie now that I've never seen before. (Ginger Snaps, maybe.)
