I Sent Him Into The Future!

Too pooped from a whirlwind drive to and from Kitakami to go into details, so I'll just briefly mention what I got up to last night. Before I met up with Alex, I had dinner at McDonald's. Why? Because I was hungry and they had a Street Fighter meal. I had the chicken. That orange concoction is some sort of Energy drink, obviously to help you pummel your opponent.

We went to BBs, but it was closed. ON A FRIDAY NIGHT! This does not bode well, that place is one of the few that are open until 6am. So searching for another venue, we discovered this very cool, mellow place that stunk of cigars (though no one was smoking) and had several huge lounge chairs that would be tough to get out of after a few of the potent cocktails they serve. We only had ONE drink. I promised myself I wouldn't drink at all, but that is always an easily broken vow.

Can't remember the name of the place though!

Unable to find a larger venue for our Halloween gig, we went back to Suu at Dragon's Diner and finalized plans for next week. It holds 10 comfortably, 15 with some squeezing and 20 if you suck in your stomachs. Hopefully, all the attendees will pop in for a drink or two and then scurry along to another party. There has been a lot of positive buzz about this soiree. I hope it doesn't bomb like last time we held a party there. (Alex, myself, and one or two regulars.)

I called it an early night and hopped on a subway around 11. En route home, I popped in the local conbini, MiniStop, and noticed that there's a new Ichiban-Kuji prize lottery for the 40th anniversary of BttF!

The A prize and the Last Prize seem to be different versions of the DeLorean. The B prize is a stuffed Einstein! I scored a C prize, a tote bag.

And the ubiquitous prize is the G prize, a poster.

At least I got the second best one! (The best one is the 3D Jaws).

A quick Oni before bed (recommended by many of your top sleep therapists), is 鬼の妹 (oni no imouto) the Younger Sister of the Oni, a cannibalistic little scamp who dines on parents.

She looks a tad cuter in the following picture.

Before it gets so cold you need to put away your BBQ, check out Action Figure Barbecue, there're some cool figures hanging around.

I have two LONG entries to get to tomorrow. And then I need to mentally prepare for a costume party for my students on Monday.

g'nite

Godzilla, King of the Monsters Comics.

It's almost the end of GOvember and I haven't showcased any of the Godzilla-esque Comics that I own. I'll provide a few covers daily until month's end. I'll start with the Best Series Ever! (Slightly out of order.)

Be sure to click on the pic to Kaijusize it.

Today I watched King Kong (1976, TV version with extra footage) and King Kong (2005), the Director's Extended version. I'm not sure what was added to either, although I can think of something missing, mainly some of Jessica Lange's naughty bits in one scene.

Yesterday, when I bought a ton of Kuji, I lamented that I didn't clean out this one store of all its Ichiban-Kuji thus ensuring that I get the A, B & Last One prizes. I went back there today and, sure enough, someone had liquidated all its prizes. Sigh. I went to a neighbouring store and chose three random cards and scored the A Prize!. Now I don't need to buy any more and try and complete my set in the second-hand market.

I chose Godzilla vs. Biolante because it is one of my faves and since it has a cool poster.

I notice that there are five Godzilla movies on my Twitch channel tomorrow. Not working does have its advantages. (I won't be making money, though neither will I be spending any.)

Attack of the Giant Lottery!

I knew this was coming, fortunately I've saved up a few shekels to afford it. Yes, a new Ichiban Kuji has arrived. I got extremely lucky in my first three tries. I scored the rare B prize, a Godzilla Minus One figure and two magnets.

It went slightly downhill from there, several more magnets, a handful of acrylic stands and some posters. It appears that the Godzilla Minus One poster is the first to be chosen, it had disappeared from each venue I tried. (Four other venues.) Here are the magnets I did and didn't win.

Biolante is well represented. 3 separate magnets, including a single branch (I call Shenanigans!) So not too bad, 7/10 with only one double Anguirus. (That's cool, he's my favourite non-Godzilla Kaiju.)

The magnets are chosen at random, as are the Acrylic guys. I got 4/18 with no doubles.

The poster seem to be recreations of the theatrical release posters. Nice big B-3 size, perfect for wallpapering a room. Here are the five I chose.

Now only 25 more to go!

GOvember is almost over! Will I be able to complete the set? Stay tuned...

Happi Mothra's Day!

It's been a little over 8 years since my mother passed, I'd like to think that she'd appreciate this as a gift.

This was a Gatcha from last week, I just had to get them all.

Chibi-Gojira.

Chibi-Radon.

Chibi-Ghidorah.

Chibi-Anguiras.

Chibi-MechaGodzilla.

Hey speaking of Godzilla, did you know there's a new movie where he battles Kong? Some of you may have seen it. It FINALLY gets released here cinematically next Friday.

I've been saving up for some of the goods that will come with it. Such as the items in this Ichiban-Kuji. I want EVERY ONE of them yet at 900 yen per try, the price will add up quickly.

I debuted my Mothra mask a few weeks ago.

I plan to show off a new mask for the GvsKK debut.

Happy Mothra's/ Mothers Day everyone!
(I miss ya mom!)

Happy 90th to Mickey!

Today is Mickey Mouse Day and it just happens to be his 90th Birthday/Anniversary! (What a coincidence.)

I knew this day was forthcoming, so I bought some Kirin Lemon Zero.

With each six-pack, you score a towel.

Unfortunately, I only only landed these two before the offer ended.

I'm not sure when I won this Minnie Mouse bag, but I know it was thanks to another freebie with a six-pack.

Right now at 7-11, there's an Ichiban-Kuji draw featuring the 90 Years of Romance between Mickey and Minerva Minnie Mouse. I'm not going to bother trying any longer for the top prizes, I won this cutlery set of the happy couple.

Other items include a bunch of towels and pillows.

And plates, glasses and some Snow Globe-type thingie.

Here you can see 90 different Disney characters celebrate MM's 90th.

And if you're in the market for really expensive posters, check this out.

Happy Birthversary to Mickey! See ya for the centenary in a decade!

Happy Harry Potter Day!

Twenty Years ago yesterday, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Sorcerer's Stone was first published

The above Hedwig and all the items that follow were acquired around the time of the release of Fantastic Beasts thanks to an Ichiban Kuji contest (and fortunately most of these were snagged at half price!).
The "A" Prize

Harry's wand with a display case.

The "B" Prize is a Gryffindor Blanket with hoodie.

Similarly, the final prize (received after you buy the last kuji ticket) is a Hufflepuff blanket with hoodie.

The "C" prize is Hedwig above and the "D" prize is this pouch.

This is the last of my "E" prizes. I gave away one of these hand towels plus a mini wand ("F" prize) on New Year's Eve to anyone who bought me a belated birthday beer. Needless to say, I got fairly drunk that evening.

In addition to the HP loot, I managed to acquire some Fantastic Beasts swag via UFO Catcher. First up is the platypus-esque Niffler who has its own little pouch.

As you can see, it's resting on a muffler. It is longer than I am tall.

This little pouch is good for holding a few potions, yet the briefcase can amass a multitude of Magical creatures!

Finally an acrylic charm.

I'm not sure whether some of the above items will be used in a makeshift Potterish costume or whether I'll give them away as gifts.
Happy 20th Harry. I'm looking forward to more Fantastic Beasts...
