A Yokai Parade!

One of these days, I definitely need to witness (or, even better, participate in) the Yokai Parade in Kyoto.

 Here's a snippet of it.

Hmm. It's going on right now. I have free time and no money. Dagnabbit! Otherwise I'd swing down there forthwith. If you wanna go, here is a link.

These are from my Oni book. I have an early day tomorrow, so I'll have to rely on Google for the narrative.

Here's something I'd never expected to see. I hope I don't upChucky.

Cat owners, have you ever had the urge to SCREAM at them?

Fortunately, I got the black cat, the best one.

A quick look at comics: (Topo the octopus: Aquaman, Hoppy* the kangaroo: Wonder Woman, Beppo the Super-monkey, Krypto the Super-dog: Superman, Streaky the Super-cat: Supergirl, Ace the Bat-hound: Batman.

 * may not be named Hoppy. Be sure to correct me in the comments.

And a quick Kampai to Cheers with Chelsea!
Now I'm off to bed, I have a long drive tomorrow morning...

A Qoo d'Etat!

Since it's Talk Like a Pirate Day today, I'm going to jump the gun on a Countdown to Halloween post and show some cute Pirates right now.

That Pirated gal is none other than Jeongyeon of  Twice fame, a K-Pop group that has sung many of their tunes in Japanese as well. What follows are several of the other gals in Halloween garb anointing the label of either Orange, Apple or Grape-flavoured Qoo.

It was not until I went to the Qoo website that I noticed that the random letters behind each gal spell out something. (I didn't buy 9 bottles of one flavour, I mixed and matched.)

Here's a brief commercial...

I didn't just buy the Pops (can't really call them juices) for the flavour, I also scored a Clear File and a mini-tote bag.

A word of advice, if you want to run out and buy these, I'd do so at a supermarket where they're about 78 yen each, if you go to a Conbini, they're about TWICE that. (See what I did there?)

I don't think I'm going to run out and buy any of their albums, they're a tad to sweet for me.
Case in point...

To wrap up this "Talk Like a Pirate" post, I'd be remiss if I didn't include a silly statement I made on Facebook today. Similar in vein to two years ago, I said,
"Are you King of the Jews?"
"Quod scripsi, scripsi" ("What I have written, I have written.")
"Quid est veritas?" (What is truth?")
"Crucify him!" Why, what has he done?"
It's "Talk like a Pilate Day"!

9 years ago, it was,
Altitude: 21,000 feet. Speed: 520 knots. Level flight. Course: zero-niner-zero.
As everyone knows, it's "International Talk Like a Pilot Day".

Today's witticism is:
I'm an iron sulfide with the chemical formula FeS₂.
It's "Talk like a Pyrite Day"!

The Cola Wars Continue...

Coca Cola may have the better commercials, but when it comes to the stuff that they attach to their drinks, they are losing the battle.

Check out these: a couple of cutesy memo pads (a pig on a palm and a dicey robot), erasers (elephant & friends plus that pig again) and a けん玉 which is actually a mini-ballpoint pen.
Though these Fanta products (Grape, Lemon & Orange) goodies have a certain charm, they pale in comparison to Pepsi's plethora of prime premiums.

Pretty cool, but not as cool as following Snoopy all over Japan as he lies upon the various specialty foods of several cities throughout Japan. As it may be difficult to discern individual dishes from this cornucopia, I suggest you go to the source to whet your appetite.

I managed to collect the entire set of 24 in 3 days and 80% of them were purchased in one fell swoop at a supermarket at 98¥ a pop. The others took some detective work, but I acquired them with only 5 doubles. I like Snoopy on a 鹿児島豚 (Kagoshima pig) the best.

UPDATE: Kagoshima just had a volcano eruption! As far as I can tell, there doesn't appear to be any injuries, but that's a dramatic way to cook their pigs!

One of these days, I plan to sell them off for a tremendous profit, but for now I'm using my Snoopys as cannon fodder in the Cola Clash.

Happy Valentines to Godzilla!

I'm working on a few things today, so a quick post to tide you over. Dr. Pepper wishes you a Happy Valentine's Day, big G and soda I!

Wouldn't You Like to be a Pepper Too?

I haven't posted a video clip in a while (I'm trying to cut down, it's lazy posting) but this is a good one. The "Big G" sells out...

Want to hear an interesting Dr. Pepper story? (No choice...) Back in the late 70's/ early 80's, David Naughton sang & danced his way through a bunch of ads and they were very catchy. Back in my Psychology days, I attended a workshop on "Sexism in the Media" or some such nonsense. These media watchdogs would watch commercials frame-by-frame to be sure we weren't infected by any subliminal messages. Well, they showed a reel of a whack of ads and one of them was one of these "I'm a Pepper" bits and there were a bunch of cheerleaders. Sure enough one of the cheerleaders who was being swung in the air by David was NOT wearing any panties and in their vigilance, the hawks caught it. The commercial was yanked. I raised my hand and offered an interesting tidbit for their perusal. After Mr. Naughton starred in "An American Werewolf in London" (my favourite lycanthropic flick), he was axed due to the graphic violence in the movie and the fact that he ran starkers through the zoo baring his bum. I guess the producers of Dr. Pepper aren't very good at turning the other cheek!
