Beerzilla!

Yesterday, I watched Rodan* and didn't do much else. It was a pj-day.

*dubbed version, so I didn't call it Radon.

Today, I just finished watching Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. and if you click that, there's a blurb about some dioramas from that movie. I also watched Godzilla Raids Again with my favourite Kaiju, Anguirus!

I have a busy week so I won't be able to indulge in my purchase, but I scored some cooler than cool cooler bags at the supermarket. They cost me about twenty bucks each, but they came with two free six-packs of beer!

The Yellow bag contains some premium Malts from Suntory. Not my favourite brand of brew but the designs are sweet.

Next up are some Premium ales.

Finally, the red bag contains a slightly cheaper beverage. I've never had it so I hope it tastes okay. (If not, it's a present for my poker buddies.)

Last year, I was lucky enough to score a tote bag for Minus 1. When I went back a few days later, they were all sold out.

Not bad, the tote is now selling for $33 US and that's WITHOUT the beer!

Boss Coffee has a really cool video they made for the 70th!

I think I'll try and track down this sake. Looks yummy. I hope I don't have to travel all the way to Nagano to get it.

That's it, I have an early day tomorrow...

Hama Sandwich

I just found out that November 16th is National Fast Food Day. Too bad these Godzilla burgers weren't offered again. (Click for some pics from a Godzilla -1 promo.)

Here are a few ads I've scammed featuring Godzilla chowing down on Fast Food.

Someone overdid it.

A healthier choice.

This one is fairly recent, from Texas. Looks messy.

Speaking of Tacos, I ate at a local joint last night. Pretty tasty!

Unless you have a death wish, don't try the raw jalapeño, the pickled ones are fine.We met the guy who grows them in the pub downstairs and they're grown in my old stomping grounds of Watari.

I'll have to check this place out again. Linda

I'm pleased to announce that I completed my new Godzilla Gatcha set. The rare one is Baragon.

We also have my personal favourite from this set, the rarely represented Gorosaurus.*

Also a Radon from '64.

And Gojira himself from 1968.

*Gorosaurus just happens to show up in one of the movies I watched today.

It is also starring birthday girl Mie Hama who is a spry 81-year old. Here she is at 80.

I also saw her in the last half of You Only Live Twice (1967). Hopefully I'll get to see it in its entirety when the marathon repeats itself. After Kong, she was in a romantic comedy called Kitchen (1989) but it wasn't very good. I saw her as a princess in Samurai Pirate (1963) or The Lost World of Sinbad. Then she was in two spy comedy thrillers from 1965, 100 Shot, 100 Killed and International Secret Police: Key of Keys. I had a hard time distinguishing these. Another movie similar to Samurai Pirate (a lot of the same cast) was Adventure in Kigan Castle (1966). Showing now is a musical called You Can Succeed, Too (1964). I'm going now watch it instead of blogging further.

ps. Yesterday I told the punchline to a joke I hadn't fully perfected yet. Here goes.

How did the cannibal feel after he consumed the second woman? Gladiator 2!

For the Birds.

I start off Week 3 of GOvember with another viewing of Marvels. (I like it that much.)

While there, I picked up some deluxe popcorn. You get to keep the bag.

You also receive a micro-poster on an easel.

Pretty cool, but not worth the price so I shan't be collecting any more of these.

Dreadfully low on groceries, I popped into the supermarket and I happened to espy this tote bag for twenty bucks AND you get two free six-packs of beer as a bonus!

This evening has been spent watching Giant Bird movies, starting with The Giant Claw (1957)!

Although one of the goofiest looking avian creatures out there, the movie itself is a pretty good sci-fi flick.

From the same year (US release) but on this side of the pond, we get Rodan. Okay, not technically a bird since in Japanese it's called ラドン Radon, a truncated version of pteranodon. Still one of the best Kaiju movies out there with a truly sad ending.

Here are several of my mini Radon.

The last Big Bird movie I watched was NOT this one.

It was Q: the Winged Serpent. David Carradine is great as the detective, Candy Clark is lovely as the girlfriend who can take a punch, and Michael Moriarty is sleazy, sympathetic and pathetic as the gangland flunky.

Once again, not technically a bird. Oh well.

Happy Me no Hi.

October 10th is a special day for a couple of reasons. As one student pointed out to me, it's EYE DAY (目の日 = me no hi. "me" sounds like "may") because 10/10 looks like a pair of eyes.

It's also National Cake Decorating Day and World Mental Health Day but neither of those pertain to moi. Me no Hi can also refer to the Day of Me (me as in the first singular personal pronoun, pronounced as "Do Re Mi"). Why is October 10th particularly important to me? Because it was on this date TWENTY YEARS ago that I first stepped off a plane and landed at Narita Airport beginning my two decade (so far) life as a teacher in Japan. To celebrate that auspicious occasion, I did something unusual and went to Izumi Mandai for a bit of Otaku Shopping.
(Say, Michael. Don't you go there regularly anyway?
Quiet you!)

I treated myself to a purple Rodan made in '93 by Bandai. It cost me ten bucks and that link is selling one for 55$ so I think I made out all right. (Too bad mine isn't Mint with Card.)

After my purchase, I was given one free shot at UFO Catcher, which is a great gimmick for you to waste your coins after your freebie.

Surprisingly, I won this guy in only 7 tries including the freebie.

I also scored a couple of Titans for 50 yen!

They hang around nicely on my Godzilla cup.

After that I went to a nearby BookOff. I found a couple of Godzilla books and a Star Wars Monsters book for a buck a piece. Woohoo!

I even scored a cheap Puffy CD that I don't think I already own.

(While listening to it, it does sound awful familiar though.)

I was looking for more Eko Eko Azarak books or DVDs at these places to no avail. So I'll just post today's postcard without further ado.

I didn't feel like cooking so I decided to do something really Japaneasy and dine on sushi. I went to my local Conveyor Belt sushi place but the fish weren't floating around, I had to order them freshly made.

I only ate 6 plates, some soup and karaage so it cost me 1500 yen and I didn't stuff myself.

Finally here's a link to today's Cryptkeeper, Monster Movie Kid.
