Zombie-Kun!

They gave out this A-4 sheet of paper with the Dragon Boat Festival by Utagawa Yoshifuji at the Koriyama exhibit. I couldn't find an equivalent on the net and maybe you can fold the paper into some kind of a boat.

I played cards with some friends tonight, and I must say that the host's collection of chicks is impressive. I've never seen so many chicks cosplaying at once.

Tonight I watched the latest Walking Dead and I'm pleased to announce that it was the best episode this season. To celebrate, here is Zombie-Kun, a wee lad who just happens to be part of the Living Dead.

I'm undecided whether I'm going to get the rest. Besides, I haven't seen them amongst the Gatcha lately.

This t-shirt courtesy of Loot Fright has its own wee lad of its own about to hatch.

It's late and I'm sleepy so that's it...

Fashionable Cat Frolics.

Long before T. S. Eliot and Andrew Lloyd Webber told their tails tales of cats, Kuniyoshi loved his felines and did a whole series of depicting them as Aristocats (not Disney's version). You can see several of in the Kuniyoshi Project. Below is one of the paintings depicting two Kabuki actors in love.

At the link, there are several more paintings, this is one of my favourites.

Unrelated, I noticed at the bookstore, there were many Halloween books on display, yet most notably was an influx of Minions!

This one in particular caught my eye.

I went on a shopping trip and discovered a set of Minion Monsters. Now if they look familiar from last year, that's because dopey me didn't realize that it was the same set and dropped a ton of coins getting them all.

Today's Loot Fright is a metal mug that Ripley drank from.

Check some bowels vowels out at AEIOU who has a feature on the Headless Horseman.

Here's another of those yummy chocolates, this one with a cat on it. (See how it all ties together?)

Back for other hijinx tomorrow.

Just Goofing around.

I took the night off yesterday and you'd think I'd put together a double-sized post today. Well, you'd be wrong.

Here is a copy of the flyer for the Ukiyoe exhibit (Click the label "Kuniyoshi or Ukiyoe" for more).

Upon that flyer are several featured paintings. Such as this giant toad.

Here's the full triptych.

Impressive.

I looked up the title of this piece and it has a whole backstory of it called, Jiraiya Gōketsu Monogatari (児雷也豪傑物語, "The Tale of the Gallant Jiraiya" about a ninja that can shape-shift into a Giant Toad.  Holy Toady! There's a copy of the original silent movie, Jiraiya the Hero on YouTube!

These two pics are scammed from the wiki page painted by Yoshitoshi.

In less impressive news, here is a Spectral Goofy, I snagged at UFO Catcher. (The others were Mickey, Minnie or Chip and Dale. Meh.)

Hey, here's a shot glass from the Orca. "Show me the way to go home..."

I haven't had time to link to our Ghost Host, Countdown to Halloween 2021 in a while, so click there to see other spooky participating pages. Such as this one. Deadpan Flook who has some vintage Halloween cards on display.

See ya all tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I need to head down to Costco to see if they have any pumpkins for sale. (Probably sold out.) Here was their display a few weeks ago.

No Time to Blog!

I saw No Time to Die tonight and that 3 hours took a big chunk out of my evening. Details on the movie later. (A bit slow but enjoyable with a great new kick-ass gal. There. That should whet your appetite.)

I don't even have time to tell you about that monkey! (If anyone wants to weigh in, feel free.)

Nor this candy ghost. (Suffice to say, I thought it was chocolate, it isn't. It's like a lollipop.)

I found a couple of Back to the Future cars on sale today. I don't have time to upload them.

Neither do I have the time to talk about this She-Ra notebook!

I will take the time to share the best part of the new Bond movie, a bit of Louis.

I'm busy again tomorrow night, but hopefully there will be Time Enough to Blog...

Good Enough for Me and Molly McGee.

Good news and bad news. The good news is that I found my collection of Yokai Ukiyoe. The bad news is that that collection consists of only two postcards and several Clear Files. It was my friend, who bought the postcard set and sent them to his sister. (SO Selfish!) Thus, I shall have enough material for a week or two, after that, I'll have to resort to using the InTeRnEt! (Shudder.)

This is the Yoshiwara Sparrows' Temporary Residence done by Utagawa Kuniyoshi back in 1846. Because Yoshiwara Brothels were destroyed in a fire the previous year, they opened their temp residences in Edo. These pictures were made as an advertisement for them, since it was illegal to publish pictures of prostitutes, personified sparrows were done instead.

That photo was taken at the museum, this is what the clear file looks like.

Here's a closeup on the reverse.

And this photo was taken off my computer screen of a site that doesn't allow the old Cut 'n Paste.

Cute sparrows!

Speaking of cute, I watched the first two episodes of  The Ghost and Molly McGee. It was pretty good.

I'll probably continue watching it.

Tonight for dinner, I had some chicken nugget thingies. Look at the packaging and you'll see why.

I shan't be buying these again.

That is a Loot Fright memo book. I'd rather read a story.

Ah, that's it for tonight. Hopefully I'll be more ambitious tomorrow.
Can anyone figure out where I scammed today's title from?

SubNormal.

I spent the day digging through boxes looking for the postcards of Ukiyoe that I put in a safe place...somewhere! Fortunately, I have a few photos kicking around such as this one with me hanging with some turtles.

This is part of a triptych of tortoises called 亀喜妙々 (Ki-ki Myo-myo) or Strange and Marvelous Turtles of Happiness. I've scammed this trio of pics from the British Museum.

My search for postcards will continue tomorrow, so I thought I'd show off a few of the pictures I took while en route to Koriyama.

These roadside statues are terrific.

I didn't watch any horror today because I wanted to pay attention, which is something I couldn't manage if I'm sifting through boxes. So I ended up watching the first two seasons of "The Norm Show"!

RiP Norm.

Norm would undoubtedly have picked up one of these costumes or Gatcha hats for his companion, wiener dog.

I had a truly nutritious breakfast today, chowing down on some Oreos. Three cookies come in a package but they're tinier that regular cookies with less filling. They would make dandy Halloween treats though.

I only ate the three packs above, not the 30 in the bag above them.

Today's Loot Fright is a snack bowl from the Lost Boys!

I'm also going to debut a new daily entry of Venom or Carnage goodies I've acquired lately, up until the debut of Venom 2 which we won't be able to watch here for a few more weeks.

It's late and I'm exhausted so no link to another Countdown blog today. Be sure to click the badge on my cover page and head over to any participating blog that piques your interest.

2021-10-02

I'm a little late to the ballgame, since having a dude's night out last night and having a lazy Saturday Morning. BUT here we go. The Countdown to Halloween 2021 has begun! First up, I scammed a badge from the head honchos at the previous link.

Now I just need to figure out how to add it to my blog. I'll do that later. (Widgets and Gadgets and Navbars, oh my!) In the interim, click on my 2019 badge to go directly to the other participating blogs. I'm using the crow because of the stupid Crow-na virus also known as Corvid 19.

Speaking of participating blogs, the first one I usually link to is the Wonderful Wonderblog, I have a THING for his first entry.

That's a copy of the poster for the Japanese version of the Thing from Another World. For a few more details and an old blog entry of mine about its John Carpenter remake, click A Thing or Two.

Now onto new business. I hope to link to a Ukiyoe painting daily IF I can find the set of postcards I bought when I went to an Art Museum showcasing the creepier paintings. (See disorganization mentioned above.)

That cute skeleton is (thanks to Wiki) is called 相馬の古内裏 妖怪がしゃどくろと戦う大宅太郎光圀  or "Takiyashi the Witch and the Skeleton Spectre" by Kuniyoshi.

As you can see, the collection was way back in late spring at the Koriyama Museum of Art. So no wonder, I've buried my booty amongst a ton of other loot acquired since then.

I hope to watch a horror a day so the most recent one I watched was Royal Jelly. It's a real stinker, so only watch it if you have a high tolerance for bad Bee Movies.

Today's trick and/or treat, is a treat bought from Aeon Supermarket in Natori. These individual chocolates are darned expensive but incredibly tasty.

Ah heck, it's my first entry so I'll add a trick.

It's a pack of Gachapin/Mukku toilet paper!
Now I have to try and track down my set of postcards...

Oops, just remembered. I decided to add a Loot Fright Crate item daily as well. Here is yesterday's t-shirt.
