Shin-anigans.

Those fine folks over at Gashapon have struck gold again with a set of Shin-Gojira desktop items. (Click that link for better pictures of the following.) This time up, there are four slightly different variations of SG.

This guy wraps around your finger. Have your own finger-puppet show!

This curvy fellow straddles your pen when it's not in use.

 These two are danglers.

They will hang on while you sip your favourite beverage.

In other Godzilla news, last week, I caught a nice big larval stage Shin-Godzilla. I liked it so much, I caught another one today.

 It's so cuddly!

If you have a spare 72000 yen, you can pick up a life size Gojira bust from his Biollante days. It'd make a dandy hat rack.

Clicking around the d'Agostino website they have two different Gojira t-shirts to choose from. Unfortunately the sizes are M or L which by Japanese standards leaves most of North America out of luck.

Presumably this sudden resurgence of Godzilla goods is due to the forthcoming blu-ray release in a few weeks.

It may finally be time for me to upgrade my entertainment system. My tv is so old that there is no way to hook up a blu-ray player to it.

Lego, Let's Go!

It's been a huge hit stateside and touted as one of the best recent DC movies. Suicide Squad? Duh, of course not. It's レゴバットマン ザ・ムービー or The Lego Batman Movie (that link takes you to the Japanese website. You can hunt around for the official site yourself.)

Here is the trailer. I fear that I may have to trek to Tokyo in order to see it in English. It is animated and appears to be for kids therefore the chances of it being released with subtitles instead of dubbed are slim.

Regardless, I ran out and bought an advanced ticket for its premiere on April Fools Day.

"Why would you spend an extra 300 yen on an advanced ticket when you could see it cheaper on April 1st?", one might ask. The answer is because you also get a free Batman in the Phantom Zone Lego toy along with your ticket!!

Sweet (I'm not going to assemble it until after I see the movie. There may be spoilers within.)

I was so excited, I ran out to the nearby Toys R Us and picked up a Lego mini-Battoy. Lots of villains on the package, surely I'll get something cool.

Nope, really lame. It may have a plot point in the movie but otherwise I'm fairly disappointed. Good thing I know someone who loves receiving Batman presents...

On the plus side, at least I didn't get #3. I do wish I could get King Tut (#19) though.

Well, that put me in a better mood. I can't wait to see this...

Miffed.

Sad to report the passing of Dick Bruna, the creator of Miffy, who died at the age of 89. Just the other day, I picked up four Miffy "kitchen clips" since they were freebies when I bought a drink.

Four different colours and six different animals make up 24 different clips. I don't think I need that many clips.

Other recent premiums I've acquired include these cute erasers

and these Idol characters that hang on one's cup. Too bad I didn't get the whole set.

Often when one buys four or more drinks, one also gets another gift. In this case, I got an Idolmaster Clear File and mini-towel, because one can never have enough Clear Files or towels.

In another case, I landed a One Piece calendar and tablecloth.

Hmm. I wonder what the Supermarket has in store for me next month???

Geekier Gacha!

The Capsule-Fest ends tomorrow, so here are a few geekier Gacha that may suit your fancy.
Starting of course with my favourite Kaiju, Godzilla in various incarnations.

I already have a complete set of these so I only got one for fun. It just so happens to be the most popular and thus harder to find one, Shin-Godzilla!

I have 9/10 of this set (as recounted here) and alas I didn't get Mecha-Godzilla that I need, I got yet another Hedorah. Sigh.

These 墨絵 sumie or ink paintings-styled key chains also had an Ultraman series. I got one eons ago and they re-released them for this fair.

The Ultraman figures below are 400 yen a pop which is too rich for my blood so I didn't sample them.

Another reissue of Pacific Rim.

This one wasn't at the fair, rather at Toys R Us. Pretty expensive for VAG, I think.

Gundam, One Piece, Dragonball et al.

Harry Potter for you wizard wannabees.

This was the only superhero that I could find. I think I have a full set of these somewhere.

These two, Spidey and  Venom, were not at the fair either. I picked them up at a Game Center and haven't seen them elsewhere since.

Some stuff for the kiddies (and the young at heart).

I'm including these because they are so strange.

Read more about Cup no Fuchiko if interested.

Finally, I'll leave you with Ghostbusters.

Another capsule that I didn't see at the Fair but later at e-beans is Naomi Watanabe.

She has her own plus-size fashion line and has a Ghostbusters connection and you can watch it here.

Doh! The above video has been expunged, so I found a more recent version of it.

I would love it if these four gals started up a Ghostbusters franchise over here!
