My Just Deserts.

Today's viewing:

‘Giant Things in the Desert’ – THE MONOLITH MONSTERS (1957) • THE MONSTER THAT CHALLENGED THE WORLD (1957) • THE BLACK SCORPION (1957) • THE MONSTER OF PIEDRAS BIANCAS (1959) • THEM! (1954) • TARANTULA (1955) • THE GIANT GILA MONSTER (1959)

I own THE BLACK SCORPION and THEM! and I've recently seen TARANTULA (which is on in the background as I type this.) I've never seen THE MONOLITH MONSTERS and really liked it. The two MONSTER movies were not great though the monsters were pretty good. THE GIANT GILA MONSTER had some cool hot-rods in it, but that's about it.

While I was watching these, I went through a DVD Collector's box and photographed its contents. Here we go.

Here's the back cover.

And a translation of that blurb.

Best extra in the bunch is this replica of the original movie pamphlet.

I love the little drawing of Dr. Serizawa.

Next up are several reprints of a half-cut poster, a speed poster, a Toho press sheet, a "King Kong vs. Godzilla" speed poster, a "Shin-Godzilla" flyer, a "Shin-Godzilla" photo news story. (That's how they are translated, not sure if the English is reproduced well. You should be able to figure out which is which.)

The coolest extra is a reproduction of a March 1955 issue of Boku-ra which features the entire story in a manga style. I shan't show it in its entirety, only the pages with Gojira.

Notice how he is more dinosaur-ian here.

The DVD itself is only in Japanese of course and has very few extras. Although it does show the first five episodes of Godzilla Island!

I wish I had bought multiple copies of this when it first came out in 2016. There are 61 volumes of Godzilla All Movie DVD Collector's Box (click to see them all) and I have about a dozen of them.

A while ago, I scored two binders that I guess you can fill with these extras. They have about 25 sleeves each to stuff stuff in.

One of these days, I'll stuff them.
