It's Santastic!

I took a week off from blogging and now have some catching up to do. Here are the highlights of my Santa gigs over the last few weeks.

Since the beginning of December, I've had more Santa gigs this year than in previous years. First was my annual appearance with the gang at Tohoku Denki (Electric) Friends of Canada party. The only difference this year was the addition of a few more Canucks than usual, including the Ambassador of Canada with whom we had drinks with later. Hobnobbing at its best.

There was a trio of a Classical pianist, violinist, and singer and the vocalist performed Oh Canada and a few carols.

Some of the Canucks meeting both Santa and Black Santa (he's SO evil).

Best part of the evening (apart from the presents) was meeting the Canadian Ambassador to Japan, Mackenzie Clugston and having a few drinks with him in a nijikai (second party.)

I couldn't drink much for I had an all-day Santa affair with some Day Care kids the following morning. I decided to go au naturel using my actual beard rather than the phony one.

The wee laddies and lassies had no idea I wasn't the real thing.

Over the following two Saturdays, I did four more Day Cares courtesy of Carl (Julian) and his gang.

 A very happy Santa!

I also had another all-day gig at Sendai station working with NTT and paired up with a dozen models flogging phones.

It was a well-paid gig, too bad they didn't spend much on the costume. Next time I bring my own.

Alas, no pics of the models, except for one big blue one.

It wouldn't be Christmas if I didn't make an appearance at Ernies Bar...

Finally, I had my annual performance at the Royal Park Hotel getting my photo taken with a ton of kiddies. Too bad it's not as popular an event as in the past and I only greeted two dinners worth of families instead of 3 or 4.

The photographer's assistant above and my two helpers below each received on of the above little UFO caught treats.

A nice way to top off the night was viewing the first full moon on a Christmas day in 38 years (the last time was when Star Wars first premiered.

Catching Star Wars.

I finally caught Star Wars on Monday night and managed to survive the weekend prior without having it spoiled for me. Suffice to say, it is a wonderful movie, one that I've been waiting over 3 decades to see. Great new characters, terrific appearances from the "old" characters and some actual good ol' fashioned acting!

Spoiler Alert!

This Ewok does NOT show up in this movie.

It did, though, manage to show up in a UFO Catcher bin and I snagged it on my third try. The particular Game Centre that I went to just happened to have a special whereupon if one pays 500 yen for 3 tries, one gets a free box of tissues!

I managed to win the above with only one box.

It cost me two more boxes (thus 1000 yen) to succeed in obtaining my next prize.

This terrific pillow of our favourite droid duo.

Ages ago, I'd won this prestige Yoda figure, well they've added C-3PO to the bunch

Finally, the other big item I've snagged is this BB-8. It'll go along well with the Yoda I'd won a few weeks ago.

Much to my surprise and frustration, I can't win the smaller SW figures. I'm cursed to only win the big stuff!

Merry Chupacabra!

Way back in October, I discovered Chupacabra have taken over Japan and were Halloweenized. Now they've been Christmastized!

I rather like this look for Santa-Chup. (If and when I ever trim my tree, guess who'll be the star.)

This little guy makes a great stocking stuffer.

But he looks a little peckish. Perhaps if I gave him his favourite dish, sheep!

Let me gift wrap it first.

There, Merry Christmas, Chupacabra!

The Prince is Right!

While everyone else is oohing and aahing over Star Wars (had you heard that a new movie is being released?), I discovered that The Little Prince is playing at La Cine Vita (Bivi) in English. I'd about given up hope of seeing this in anything but Japanese yet I checked out the website and lo and behold it's there! Alas, today is the last day at a reasonable hour, for the next week it'll be at 9:20am, so check it out while you can.

The animation is wonderful, the voice acting is superb and the story itself is heartrending. Highly recommended.

Anticipating that I'd eventually watch this, I picked up a Clear File ages ago.

I also discovered some stuffed figures at the UFO Catcher next to the Tomiya 109 Cinema.

It took me forever to win the above three yet I had a spare coin so I attempted the large version of Mr. Fox and won it on the first try!

The goods for sale at the cinema today weren't very appealing, though I can always use an eraser.

So if you head out to the theatre to go see Star Wars and discover that it's sold out, go check out this movie instead. I may go see it again in Japanese just to catch it in 3D or 4D, it's that good...
