The last time I intended on writing in my blog was January 9th, almost 9 months ago! I started, then faltered, then tried again, got writer's block, made another attempt, aborted my mission, then realized I'd let it go too long! What I planned to write was about these Godzilla Burgers at McDonalds. They have disappeared since then.
A. Spicy Thick Beef & Potato. B. Smoky Pepper Chicken. C. Cheese Double Teriyaki.
To my recollection, they weren't very edible. The best was probably the Chicken.
More important than the food was this Godzilla/Be@rBrick/McDonalds collaboration they had going on.
Although I was broke back then, I did manage to scrape together enough to order one.
I am pleased with this. I was less pleased when they took it from an exclusive set, only ordered online with a deadline, to selling them over the counter in stores. Ah well. They have doubled in price if you try to find one in the used market these days.
These were all to promote Godzilla Minus One way back when. Since then Gojira has won an Oscar!
Okay. That's what I would have written 9 months ago. I need to get back into the swing of things considering the Countdown to Halloween 2024 is starting next month!
I just returned from a whirlwind tour of Toronto and spent three weeks cataloguing a ton of comics, and readying them for sale. I did come across a box of Tick Toys! What ticks me off is that I can't keep them in my friend's basement much longer and need to sell them.
The only place that showed any interest was The Silver Snail. They don't buy toys per se yet were willing to consider taking them off my hands. If I had access to eBay, that would be the way to go. Or could I get them shipped here? Hmmm.
I just finished watching Jurassic Shark 3: Seavenge and it's movies like this that make me wish I had some of Batman's Shark Repellent*.
Here are some positives and negatives for this cinematic messterpiece.
Plus: Runtime is only 74 minutes.
Minus: Some of that runtime rehashes previous scenes in a dream sequence.
Plus: I kind of liked the score.
Minus: Everything else. Acting was atrocious. "Special" Effects were laughable. Sound Effects were equally dismal, the noise the shark makes is similar to what a growling dog utters when pulling on a squeaky toy.
Plus: That's a kick-ass poster!
Minus: The writing and plot were mind-numbingly bad. But... Plus: There is a twist ending that is also bad but unexpected. Click here if you're brave enough to spoil the twist.
Did I waste 74 minutes watching this? Yes. Do I regret doing so? No.
Scroll up a bit and you'll see an * beside Batman's Shark Repellent. Today just happens to be Batman Dayand it's my way of segueing into that. According to this article, the Shark Repellent from the 1966 movie has been made canon into the DC Universe!
The Effects in that movie are almost 60 years old and are still superior to those of Jurassic Shark.
So, speaking of Batman. What with it being the 100th Anniversary of Warner Bros., they've been mashing their properties together for a while now. Scroll down to the bottom of this post for some examples. (Okay, I'll save you the trouble of a click and show you one of the Clear Files.)
What "Bugs" me is that I paid over 3 bucks for a Clear File and now the supermarket is giving them away for free (with the purchase of 4 drinks).
Yesterday, I just happened to drop into a UFO Catcher location and landed a couple of Eggs.
These contain Jelly Beans and I'll save them to give to my students next month. I always preferred Tom over Jerry so it's good to see him as Batman and his nemesis the Jeroker. (Jerry-Joker)
In conclusion, HAPPY BATMAN DAY! Celebrate with Jerry Jelly Beans or go spray a Shark or something!
I was undecided with what Countdown to Halloween entry I'd begin, until I saw the season finale of Resident Alien and my mind was made up. Late last November (yes, it has been a while since I've blogged regularly), I was kidnaped by my friend and driven off to a mystery location in Fukushima. Sure enough, the mystery was solved and I found myself at the Iino UFO Museum. So let's harken back and pay a visit to the UFO no Sato (UFO Village) and take a look at some of the exhibits on display. (Click either link for some deets.)
Like a big dummy, I had forgotten my phone, so I had to depend on my kidnaper for photos. Fortunately, he's a far superior photographer than I so these pics turned out great!

There's a 3D Theatre screening the "Mystery of the Senganmori" albeit in Japanese. Outside the facility is a trail one can follow to investigate the Senganmori phenomena for yourself.

Inside the restaurant/ gift shop were a couple of cute sculptures.
I bought a Clear File (of course).
I also bought a little badge of Komora, a Kaiju-esque visitor from another world.
And I also snagged this little guy who I have hanging from my bedroom light so I can find my way in the dark.
All in all, a nice little museum with shockingly very little X-Files or Sci-Fi influence within.
