Bruce Lee lasted quite a long time in the fickle field known as Acting. How did he keep in shape, you might ask? Thanks to consuming several different Protein drinks, he managed to maintain his washboard abs. What surprised me is that his daily regime also included lots of exercise by utilising Suntory Protein Water as a prop. Yummy!
Much to my surprise, this wasn't the first Energy drink from Japan that Bruce indulged in. This one goes back as far as 1996!
A final thought, I thought this was really well done...until I viewed the ending. LAME!
ps. Check out the Label below, "Blue III" to see a different side to Bruce Lee. I have seen them live several times (sound it out...Blue Three = Bruce Lee!) This is a really bad quality video of them that I took with my cell phone:

Am I Blue?
Not really. We had a rip-roaring roustabout on Friday with our special guests Blue III who entertained the crowd in their own inimitable fashion. I took several photos, mostly crappy but some turned out well. I'm not going to comment on them and just randomly place them on the page. Make of them what you will...

Thanks to the band and djs, the 150-plus people who showed up had a terrific time. Can't wait until next month!

ps. If you see me, mention that you read this blog entry and I'll pass you a KitKat wafer.

All That Glitters...
...is Golden Week! Today is 憲法記念日 (Constitution Memorial Day or Kenpo kinen-bi) and it officially kicks off a long weekend of 4 days (not quite a week this year since 2 of the holidays fall on the weekend.) So I've spent today reading all about the constitution of Japan. Well, more like tidying house and watching the tube all day.
I want to finish up my last musical post with some more goodies and then get to the important stuff. This freaky sculpture welcomes you to Macana as you enter the bowels of the club.
I went to a live Indie event there last Tuesday and saw several new groups, including a trio of young lasses called Kunoichi Panda who were very lively and the lead singer was quite good. (Click that link for a video of them.)
A truly horrendous punk group with a well-endowed shemale-looking lead who had a voice like Bea Arthur. Avoid Blue Night Bird at all costs!
A better punk band were Zig and I'd see them again if forced to.
The highlight was my old pals Blue III belting out in their inimitable style.

In his debut, former Ponytail, Kenta starred as their new drummer, Blue I!
Everyone was Kung Fu Fighting as Blue III wows us with his nunchucks and mingles with the masses. I'm going to try and get them to perform at a future Echophonyk.
Warning, this video is pretty loud, but his nunchucking is terrific:
The final singer was a real diva named Barb with a loud voice and a modicum of talent. I enjoyed her set, but I detect an inner craziness within her.
I took a night off and then on May 1st, I went to a reunion of my old high school, a Sayonara party for me and welcome party to my replacement. He may have larger feet than me, but he has bigger shoes to fill. I got to end my experience there with a horrid version of My Way. I will miss the students and some of the teachers, but I won't miss the headaches. New guy, Cort...good luck to ya!
I got pretty pissed and headed over to Shaft for a few more and hooked up with Blaise of Monkey Majik fame and chilled with he and his visiting brother, Geebose. If you're up to it, why not download his latest single at that link?

Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting.
The Blue III boys were in top form. They played their usual tunes and maybe a new one or two, but nobody really goes to see them for the music. It's all for the show.

It's Blue I, drummer extraordinaire.

It's Blue II, ax swinger.

And finally, it's Blue III.

Fists of Death.

Enter the Dragon.

Working the crowd.

Flaunting the Nunchuks.
If you're interested in their newest cd, go for it.

BlueIII meets his most insidious opponent!

Back to the Beach.
I went with an ex-student of Mokugohan's named Akari, a very cute woman with her hand on the pulse of the Sendai music scene. Her equally cute cousin also joined us.

1st up were the Ponytails: We've seen these Rockers before and one of the rules of Indie Rock bands is to have a cute female drummer (and she even remembered me!)
2nd up were JETT3: punkers of undistinguished merit, mainly eardrum numbing.
3rd were the CHICKEN masters: lively rockers with a pretty good sound.
4th were Daisy Silky Ghost Unabashed mild rockers, the best thing about them is their name.

5th were VABIRONZ 2 flamboyant local punk boys with outrageously garish Mohawks, Good fun but lacking talent.
6th is my favourite band who I've seen a few times, Blue III, details later.
Finally we saw The Backdrops, an unremarkable loud rock band, but the bass player did have a cool coonskin hat. I listened to 2 songs and left.
All in all a very enjoyable weekend at the Beach in order to celebrate Marine Day. For me, one of the true pleasures of these "Hole in the Wall" places is being the only foreigner in the place and recognizing people who I'd met at previous functions. Alas, due to the heavy rain today, I opted out of attending today, but I'm sure it was great. (VIOLETS, JAZZCOKE and GREENPEACE are pretty good.)
