Five, Six Grab your Crucifix!

I got home late from school today and ate some Halloween Gyoza.

Pretty good and enough for tomorrow's dinner as well.

My students spent the day decorating their classrooms. They did a great job and a pretty good job.

How did that get there?

Last week's Potat o' Lanterns have gone extremely bad. They put the ants to good use.

They decided to spook up the loo.

The class of all gals (but two) did their typical half-assed attempt at their task. This is the result.

It's not entirely their fault, the first class had first crack at the decorations and chose the best ones. (Then again, 1/3 of the class just sat on their duffs and did naught to assist.)

Tomorrow is a costume party with Trick or Treating. Let's see if they all participate when snacks are on the line!

A truncated post tonight, for I spent the evening watching Wes Craven. First, "Invitation to Hell" a TV movie with a very sexy looking Joanna Cassidy. Then halfway through "A Nightmare on Elm Street", it dawned on my that I have never seen this in its entirety. Apart from Wes, ya know what connects these two movies? Joanna was in Roger Rabbit and the voice of Roger (Charles Fleischer) was the Doctor at the sleep clinic!

Pleasant dreams!

I almost forgot, I popped into the mall and found a box of Junji Ito pins.

I bought Slug Girl!

Funkonstein!

According to EEK!, September 21st is the 200th Anniversary of Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus. My research (Wikipedia or that there link) can only find reference to Mary Shelley writing the novel 200 years ago on January 1st, 1818, not in September.

Regardless, I never did do a tribute back then, so let's do one now. I just happen to have purchased a Funko of Frankenstein last week for we discovered that the Hardware Store, Daishin, carries a large variety of them cheaply. Prior to this, we have to rely on Yodabashi or at the cinema for big bucks.

In the same series, I also landed Dracula.

And the reason I went, The Creature! A friend told me about them and upon hearing of the Creature, I hightailed it to a Daishin.

They also happened to have Roger Rabbit and I couldn't resist.

On Friday, I popped into the Daishin in Watari just to see if I'd get lucky and landed a Maul.

And a Predator, just in time to see the movie!

Furthermore, today I discovered a new store, NUTS, that sells snacks and things at a discount. I bought a few items I'll mention later but I'll share this Monstro-Gum now since it's part of today's theme.

This can be considered a sneak preview of the Countdown to Halloween, 2018. If I may be Frank, be sure to stay tuned for more in October.

A Valiant End.

Sad to report the demise of a terrific actor, Bob Hoskins. Brazil, The Long Good Friday, Mona Lisa, Hook (the only good thing in it), Roger Rabbit and tons more. Of these, my favourite has to be Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

(True story: I once began writing a short story about a Guinea Pig named Sam Spayd who solved murders in Newspaper Comic Strips. Then Gary K Wolf came along with Who Censored Roger Rabbit and I chucked the whole thing.)

But when the movie came out, I absolutely adored it. I was familiar with Bob from Mona Lisa and Brazil yet he proved to be the perfect foil for Roger. Back in my Tokiwagi days, I showed it to my students a few times yet since then I don't think I've viewed it. I'll have to rectify that!

My deluxe version comes with two discs, including a ton of extras:

 Including the infamous Pig-Head scene!

It comes in a nifty package shaped like a notebook ...

... and also includes a couple of postcards!

I'll have to rewatch the movie, dig up my Movie Pamphlet and report back. Hmm. I wonder if I have any Happy Meal toys from it?

I'm Getting Too Old For This ;;;;!

As old age creeps up on me, I find new problems occurring everyday. My last health check gave me a clean bill of health except for Cholesterol levels shot through the roof. And this morning, after a dozen hours of Tummy Trouble, I skipped school and went to my friendly clinic. They like me because no matter how much discomfort I'm in, I joke with them, putting them at ease in dealing with the chubby foreigner. So, it looks like I finally better get on that diet that I've been avoiding for years. I have the beginning signs of Colitis (大腸炎). Not to worry, nothing bleeding or ulcerous, just a very tender lower abdomen. I'm on some anti-inflammatory and anti-diarrhea meds and should be better in a week. I sure as Hell better be better by Halloween, I don't want to end up going as a semi-colon.
