Last night I had the pleasure of witnessing some Izumi fireworks in the company of my Mio. She was far more impressed than I was though I managed to make some jocular remarks that amused her. We viewed them from the street overlooking a mini cornfield and although I didn't get too many good pics, a few came through. I jested that the ones lower in the sky looked as though they'd set the cornfield afire resulting in popcorn. She laughed. (She either likes me or she's easily amused.)
The rest of the photos appeared as though they were taken in a war zone or that an inter-dimensional warp had just opened up. (Who has Japan pissed off this week? N. Korea? S. Korea? China? Russia? Mars? The list goes on)
The beauty in the skies paled in comparison with the beauty of my companion! (Awww.)
We popped into Gusto for dessert. I had a parfait, she had a kakigori large enough to sink the Titanic!
After that we popped into Loop Cafe to hear DJ Mokugohan spin some tunes. Funky, groovy & cool enough to get Mio dancing on the couch!
Loop Cafe holds its 10th anniversary on Friday at ADD. Come on down!

C'mon Baby, Light My Fire.
A few weeks ago during one of my Business lessons, a student espied my OnePiece umbrella and her desire to own it. I didn't succumb to her request but the following week, I was wandering through the supermarket and they had a "Buy 2 packs of Curry cubes, snag a free OnePiece cutting board" deal and I picked it up. When it came time for her lesson, I wasn't intending on giving it to her but, on a lark, I did.
Last Thursday, she reciprocated with a set of ワンピースはなび (OnePiece Hanabi)! I thanked her profusely and hoped I'd get a chance to use them on Canada Day. Unfortunately, fellow Canuck Rob & Brit Andy decided to spend a few extra days volunteering in Ishinomaki. (They can be SO selfish sometimes.)
I doubt if I'll do any whooping it up for Independence Day so Alex and his kids and another visiting Canuck, Stefan & spawn will have to have our own little fireworks party.
Apart from the sparklers, I don't really know what the others do but I'm sure that with a few beers in us, we'll be as careless as the kiddies.

Hey cool, I even get an original Badge from the new movie!

Fire Flowers In Full Bloom.
I went to an end of the summer (sigh) festival in Izumi last night and mellowed with Alex & Kaede under the stars and watched an awesome display of fireworks. I'll treat you to a few pics, but if you want to see 200 more, click Hanabi.
Here is Kaede making silly faces.
These are some shots of the crowd and culminating in some rather creepy ghostly shots of the park!
The evening ended well for I found 2 Puffy cds I don't own for only a buck. Furthermore, I popped into my local Darts/Billiards pub and I met a young lady who's avatar name is UTERUS! Unsurprisingly, she's a groinocologist and surprisingly, she's interested in meeting me again!

Tanabata-time!
Went downtown last Tuesday to check out the fireworks as part of the Tanabata celebrations. As you can see, I wasn't alone. Hordes of gawkers milled about waiting for the go-ahead from the cops to lay claim to their little square of pavement.
In an amusing moment straight out of a Marx brothers' movie, at 6:35 (10 minutes prior to the designated time) one person leapt onto the street and a swarm of lemmings followed. The police then blew their whistles and menacingly waved their light sabers dissuading people from sitting. Everyone went back to the gates and again awaited the official kick off. The Boys in Blue blew and the race began anew.

Of course, Dave's wife Miwa elbowed her way in and snagged the prime real estate for our party of 4 1/2 (the 1/2 being Dom's kid.)
Michiko graciously accepted an invite to join us
and spent the duration of the evening entertaining the aforementioned kid. After the initial flurry of ooohs & aaaaws of fire flowers (花火 or hana-bi = literally means flowers of fire), he was bored to tears and spent the rest of the next 2 hours playing with a balloon and standing in front of me. Nice kid, but he has the attention span of a 4-year old (being aged 4 is no excuse!)
After Dom retrieved his son, we went to a Dance club called Yankee Court, a relatively new facility that the younguns have laid claim to. I was immediately bored and so I took it upon myself to ignore my friends and made straight for the only single woman in the place. Much to my surprise, we spent the next 3 hours dancing together and even more to my surprise, she assented to giving me her phone #/mail address. And utmost to my surprise, she actually responded to my email the next day. I haven't heard from her since I responded to her response, but who knows what may occur next!

My camera was acting up as usual, so I got relatively few pictures of the gunpowdered gallery but here are a few for you. Plus a crappy cell-phoned-15-sec-YouTube or three for you.
I can't wait for another date with Yuuka to see if there are any more fireworks!
UPDATE: Okay, I'm confused! Why did YouTube delete my videos. This will take some investigation. Grrrr! (Try clicking it anyway, you can hear it though you can't see it!)
