Toiretsu Syndrome.

This must be one of the least Macho commercials I've ever seen, but it is captivating! Once you've downed a couple of Dakara's drinks, the one thing you'll need to do is relieve yourself. These wee lads have little shame and wee to their heart's content.

There are several of these ads, click around to view some more:

Sega knows that peeing is big business and have installed targeting systems for enterprising souls to show off their aim. Each urinal is installed with a pressure sensor. An LCD screen is mounted on the wall above, letting the gamer select from and play four different minigames. There's "Mannekin Pis," which simply measures how hard you can pee, and "Graffiti Eraser," which lets you remove paint by pointing a hose in different directions.

There's the faintly sexist, "The Northern Wind, The Sun and Me" where you play as the wind trying to blow a girl's skirt up, and the harder you pee, the harder the wind blows.

Sure it's misogynistic, but it's not as traumatizing as this!

Good Morning, Dollface!

That sounds like a greeting Bogey as Marlowe may spout to his secretary, but I have another meaning in mind. March 3rd is Japan's Girl's Festival, 雛祭り (Hina Matsuri or the Doll's Festival.) My first post on the subject is a rather comprehensive take on the Hina Matsuri, the following year I investigated one of my favourite J-pop i-dolls, Pink Lady and later took a peek at Akari's dolls. Last year at this time, I spoke of my dolls. I still have a long way to go to complete a full set.

This year since we just finished an Olympics where absolutely everyone got along and there were no problems whatsoever (what Olympics extravaganza was I watching!?), I'd like to introduce an international gathering of the 101-year old Rose O'Neill's Kewpies as they all greet us with "Good Morning" in their native language as translated into Japanese and then re-translated into phonetic English by me.

First up is 日本...世界のおはよう (Japan's Sekai no Ohayou = World Morning.)

In one of the above links, I introduced the horribly addictive ひなまつり by ミニモニ, try and enjoy it.

Coca-Cupie.

These are the ugliest, most ridiculous mascots yet...that's why I had to get them! I'm off to bed soon so I hope these Rosie O'Neill Kewpies haunt your nightmares as well!

Sweet Dreams!

So Very Very Wrong...

But so very very cute. Who cannot love the concept of a fusion between Kewpie dolls and anything? Runatown has even coined a phrase for it: キュージョン (Kewsion). If you click there, you'll see that Kewpie has merged with every character imaginable, but mind-melding with Spock is pure genius!

I finally got to see the movie on its Japanese opener last Friday. I won't elaborate for those of you who hasn't seen it yet (ie. Alex, with whom I was supposed to view it until he contracted a Sehlat flu) though I did get to see it with a former student from my Soma days who runs a successful Eye Clinic in Shiogama. Thanks for treating me to a ticket and a movie pamphlet, Takefumi!

I will offer my comments upon the casting for the movie though, so here we go...(I'm not going to take the time to link to everyone, surely you can Google them yourself.)

First up, we have "I am James Tiberius Kirk" himself, Chris Pine. He did a great job as a mesh between James Dean and James Kirk, a bit too angsty for me at times, but he does have an keen eye for the ladies...
Quinto as Spocko. My favourite Hero/Villain did an admirable job as Spock Jnr. Not as good at controlling his emotions as his elder self, but that's part of his charm.
Nimoy as Spock. Inspired casting of Nimoy as Spock. I'm glad he has continued to Live Long and Prosper, thus ensuring a new breed of Trekaddicts.

Bruce Banner/Bana as Nero. A Romulan named Nero...nice writing! (Better than Remus, I suppose!)
Bruce Greenwood as Christopher Pike. A good Canadian boy (hey, TOS had a couple of Canucks), I really enjoyed the Easter Egg when he appeared at the end of the movie.
Karl Urban nailed Bones. IMHO, the best casting in the entire movie!

Zoë Saldaña as Nyota Uhura. Very sexy, but she's no Nichelle Nichols.
Simon Pegg as Scotty. Awesome casting choice. I loved him in Spaced, Hot Fuzz and the RomZomCom, Shaun of the Dead. I love him even more here. One complaint...not enough of him!
John Cho as Hikaru Sulu did an adequate job, but aren't there any Japanese actors out there who are capable of playing Japanese? (Click on the label below, Japolliwood, for more cases.) Great fencing!

Anton Velchin as Pavel Andreievich Chekov. What getting a Russian to play a Russian!?! I found his acting superb, but his accent seemed too strong (paging Irony.)
Ben Cross as Sarek. Mark Lenard was brilliant as Spock's papa, but his shoes were amply filled by Mr. Cross.
I love it. Rather than show a photo of Winona Ryder as Spock's mom, Amanda Grayson, they just show a shot of Vulcan. Maybe she swiped the pic!

I started off this post with some of the ST goods offered at the cinema. Here are a few more.

Pie In The Sky!

Since I have only insignificant others, I won't be giving out any White Day chocolates today. So instead, let's celebrate 3/14 as Einstein's birthday or better yet...
π Day. Since I missed out on Square Root Day (3/3/9), I'm getting the jump on all physicist wannabees with an early post on PI Day. What better way than to present a few comic book covers featuring PIES?!

Famous fruity fastman's foil, The Pied Piper.

Kewpies!

Sweety Pie vs Cutie Pie!

Supes as the Pied Piper of Steel!

FYI, in case you didn't know, that's Pieface holding onto Green Lantern there.

To finish off, let's take a look at that expert Pie thrower, Soupy Sales!

Kewpie Dolls...

I'm convinced that there are a few things that are sending us to Hell in a Handbasket and Kewpie dolls are near the top of the list. I'm not sure where the term キュージョン (kyu-jon) comes from but it has something to do with these Hell-dolls.

There are several examples of where these Kewpies meld with other characters (eg. Devilman) but the worst has to be...

GeGeGe!

On the side of this box, you can acquire GeGeGe himself, Rat-baby, Cat-baby or BaBa-baby. All very creepy!

On the other side of the box, you will see Wall-baby, Old-man-baby or Flying Carpet-baby.

And then there is the mystery character which I was lucky enough to acquire: 目玉のおやじ or Medame-oyaji-baby which is a Kewpie doll with a freaking huge eyeball on its forehead! Awesomely horrible!

All that being said, if it were made available as a Halloween costume, I'd wear it in a minute!
